Achieving Your Goals: What's Your Best??
When you have a goal you want to achieve... or when you want to make some change in your life... or when you taking action for anything in life... do you do your best??
I was contemplating this the other night...
- when I haven't accomplished what I've set out to accomplish by a particular time, I often think to myself "it's ok, I've done my best".
- when we are encouraging someone, wishing them well for a particular activity or performance we commonly say "Do your best"
- when we are consoling someone for not achieving what they wanted to achieve, frequently I hear "but you did your best, and that is the main thing!"
My question to me is "what is my best??"
Sure... whenever I've completed an activity, or whenever I don't complete what I set out to, I often think of what I could have done, how I could have done it differently, if I had done something else a different result would have emerged ... my typical post-mortem and over analysing!
But do I really know what my best is??
At times I find that my performance/action/behaviour achieves a more positive result than I have ever experienced before... what I thought was my best in the past, has been replaced by another best.
So what is my best?? It isn't about working harder, longer hours, doing more things....
perhaps it's about:
- focusing more on the moment and not allowing past experience influence my actions. Certainly past experience can help... it can give me valuable information about what works, what needs to be done differently and so on. But not allowing past experience to determine the present outcome
- focusing on the moment of the task at hand and not allowing my limiting thoughts to restrict my actions
- putting my total focus on what I'm doing... not being distracted by my thoughts, outside temptations
- allowing myself to extend my boundaries beyond what I thought was possible for me
- to go with the energy of the moment
Do you know what your best is?? Click on the comment link below and share your thoughts... it would be great to hear from you
Best wishes

Hi Jeanne,
Like most people I am constantly striving to be my best, I still do . In the past I would beat myself up mentally if I felt I hadn,t acheived what I wanted to get done. Now day,s I still give my best and I say to myself ....mate you did your best & remember what you got done today wasn,t done yesterday....
works fine for me

Hi Allen...
Thanks so much for your comments!
Many of us do beat ourselves up when we don't achieve what we've set out to and it is so good when you can get to a comfortable place to say it's ok!
Many of my clients have difficulties in giving themselves permission to be satisfied with the efforts that they do put in!
Best wishes
Jeanne
