I've noticed a significant change in the way people talk... especially in their talk about what they desire in their life, and the goals they have set.
Over the last few weeks (actually months if I think about it) we have been inundated with doom and gloom messages about the volatile economic climate in many areas throughout the world.
Each day we hear of more market crashes and meltdowns... we hear about seemingly rock solid businesses collapsing and countless jobs lost. And some of us are not just hearing it but are actually experiencing job loss or business wipe out!
The economy downturn impacts everyone... and some will experience the negative impact more than others.
For many it has been a gradual change, and yet others have experienced a sudden and drastic change. Prices are up... value of the dollar (or any currency) has rapidly decreased... and it seems to be going from bad to worse!
It is getting tough! And for some... it's a very scary time.
So... what do we do? How will we react to this major economic change throughout the world? We have a right to be concerned... we can't just ignore the situation. How we respond to the economic climate, especially to the onslaught of negative messages from all areas of the media, will greatly affect the way we get through this time.... whether we crumble in the wake, or whether we flourish!
In essence, there are 4 ways of responding to the current economic meltdown:
1) we can absorb the negativity... look at things very pessimistically and get caught up in the downturn talk and the ramifications of the downturn. We can become depressed, fearful and panicky, feel hopeless and helpless... from this perspective, we believe we have no control over what happens to us.
2) we can adopt a "head in the sand" approach and do nothing... we can continue what we are doing, perhaps getting further and further into debt with thoughts that we will deal with things as they come along. We may continue doing the same things the same way, including unnecessary spending, in the hopes that things will turn for the better in the near future
3) we can respond impulsively which may lead us to do unwise things... there are numerous "get rich schemes" flying around... there always has been countless " get rich schemes" but now they seem to be coming out of the woodwork in droves! We may get caught up in schemes promising to make us millionaires in a short period of time or promising financial security... which in reality deliver us nothing and see us spiralling further into debt... and further into despair
4) we can create a plan to get through this... we can use the current economic climate as an opportunity to re-evaluate what we are doing, and how we are doing it, and what's important to us . This re-evaluation applies to everyone, to individuals and multinational companies and businesses alike. I can hear many people say how unrealistic this response is... but did you know that many fortunes were made right in the middle of the Great Depression! It is true... some businesses and people will prosper and others will in fact get rich... and I'm not only talking financially rich!

- "How has all the talk around the economic downturn affected your thoughts about your life and what you want to achieve for you and your family?"
- "How is the current economic climate going to affect you and achieving your goals?"
