Is One of Your Goals To Write a Book?

Writing a book is a common goal for many people... and if it is one of your goals, this will be appropriate.

Over the last couple of weeks I've been writing a new e-book... my goal is to have it finished by the end of July. 

Even though this is my 3rd book, I've always floundered with putting it all together... in other words, what bit goes where in a logical order. 

I'm not talking about the actual writing of the book, because that's a whole different topic.  What I'm talking about is after you have written it and you're at the stage where you're putting it all together in a way which looks professional and looks like a real book you would find in any bookstore.

A few months ago I came across an extremely useful, an extremely affordable, e-book which shows you how to put your book together.  It shows you what goes where... and takes the guesswork out of everything which suits me down to the ground in a huge way!

The book is very appropriately called "Recipe for Quick and Easy Product Creation"... and one of the advantages of this book is that it will give you the wording to use for different pages so you can copy and paste onto your own book and alter to suit your needs.

I've used this book a couple of times and I'm in the process of using it right now.  This prompted me to let you know about it as well.

Not only is the book easy to use... it gives you templates to follow for each section e.g. disclaimer, copyright information and so on, and gives you so many tips that are truly invaluable.

Weekend Reading: Blogging and Mongolia, both free!

It's a long weekend where I come from... and I thought it would be a good opportunity to remind you about a couple of reports which make good reading over this weekend... actually, they make good reading any day, at any time!

And both these are complimentary... yes, free!

100 Post: a big thank you and time to reflect and celebrate

Hi everyone...

This post today is my 100th blogging post since moving to Typepad!

It's quite a milestone really... well, it is for me.  When I look back at this time last year, I had no idea what a blog was.  In fact, I didn't hear very much about a blog until I stumbled across the BlogSquad... in July, 2007, I started a blog on blogspot -- quite brave I thought!

It wasn't until late September 2007, after participating in classes offered by the BlogSquad that I made the move to Typepad... towards the end of 2007, I came across Connie Ragen Green in a BlogSquad's course, and in 2008 enrolled in Connie's mentoring program. 

And the rest, as they say... is history!

Since I joined Connie Ragen Green's mentoring program, my online development has skyrocketed.  Connie provided expertise and guidance in so many areas including the technical aspects of blogging and marketing, and writing and marketing articles and e-books.

A few months ago, I came across a "Building Your Business" program offered by Wendy Wallace.  Wendy also became my mentor... she provided guidance and support in other areas of my growth and development.  Wendy helped me crystallise the idea of creating my first e-course Uncovering Your Dream.  In the 10 weeks I've been with Wendy, I've developed a strong and clear idea of where I'm heading in my work.

At the beginning of 2007 I had a vague idea I wanted to develop a personal development website... and when I say a vague idea I truly mean vague!  I kind of knew what I wanted to do, but had no idea how to go about it... so I sought help, guidance and much needed support and understanding from others.

The reason I'm sharing this with you is to highlight the fact that when you want to make a major change in your life, when you set out to achieve a large goal, you always benefit from seeking the support, knowledge and experience from others who have already achieved what you are desiring to achieve.

More often than not, you won't get everything you need from one source or from one person.  You greatly benefit from learning from different people... each person has different experiences, a different perspective and a different way of expressing themselves.

I know my experience with my mentors has been beneficial because of you, my readers!  The comments and e-mails I've received from you, and the number of subscribers to my blog and website clearly demonstrate the benefit of receiving input and support from others. 

I couldn't do this on my own, I didn't have a clue what way to go... but people showed up in my life at the right time... and I took up each opportunity as it was given to me.

So... a very big thank you to the people I've learnt from over the last 9 months... and a huge thank you to the readers who keep me inspired! 

Doing this is such a labour of love... and I couldn't imagine my life without it!

Mentor: what is it??

No matter where you are in life, no matter what you want to achieve or do in your life, there is no better way to succeed than to spend time with and learn from people who have already succeeded.

If you want to advance in life, whether it be in your career, financial situation, relationships, sports skill, or personal development... it almost always requires the assistance from someone who is willing to:

• share their knowledge and skills with you
• guide you
• let you know about their successes and their failures
• keep you accountable throughout your development

Having a mentor is crucial for any kind of development.  Many successful people, including Jack Canfield, James Allen, Earl Nightingale, Brian Tracy, Anthony Robbins, Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Bill Gates... to name a few... swear by their mentors and credit them with much of their success!

A mentor is someone who:

• inspires you
• has the ability to teach you 
• guides you
• you trust
• has knowledge and experience in an area you require for your own development

You don't have to know your mentor personally.  Your mentor could be a highly respected personal development expert, a successful business person, a successful athlete, a successful tradesperson, a community leader... from an another country or even from a different period in time.

You can learn from these people by reading their stories, reading their books, listening to them, watching them... just as much as you can from having face to face contact with them.

You do not only have to have one mentor... it can be different people throughout your life depending on what you need at a particular time.
